Biblical Truth of Hell

SPOILER ALERT!
This blog is not going to be in keeping with the "popular" bible teaching on Hell and the Afterlife as it is taught in many churches around the world.

THERE IS NO ONE BURNING IN HELL RIGHT NOW.

Reader, in case, you missed the bold letters above, I will reiterate that no a single person is in Hell right now. Hell  is not a place where sinners burn forever and ever. It is a teaching based on tradition and is pagan in origin. The "popular" conception of Hell can be found in Buddhism, ancient Greek and Roman mythology. Even Egyptian folklore has a very familiar picture of Hell as a place of eternal torment. Fortunately, Our Loving Saviour does not record such a conception of Hell in His Holy Word, The Bible.

First of all, humans do not possess an eternal spirit that exists beyond death. Proof?

Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 King James Version (KJV)

For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
Now, let's see if the New Testament has any "new" or "different" truth.

John 3:16 King James Version (KJV)

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Problem- If we had an eternal spirit or soul, we needed Jesus to die, why? If we all become spirits and live forever what is the importance of Christ's sacrifice?
Wait, I know you are going to say that we needed it so we don't live for an eternity burning in Hell. However, the text above CLEARLY says Jesus is the only way we can have everlasting life.
Here are two texts in perfect synergy since they both share the truth that we do not have spirits or souls that float around for eternity.
WHAT ABOUT HELL?
Let's review:
  • The dead are simply asleep in their graves.
  • Man does not have an eternal spirit.
  • Therefore, HELL is empty or rather does not exist as yet.
Remember, Romans 6:23 teaches that the wages of sin is death not eternal life in hell.
God does not change! So why are so many people so taken by this surprisingly non-biblical truth.
Hell is filled with fire and brimstone. Truth! However, it is not in some subterranean realm under Earth. Let's see what Revelation says,

Revelation 20:9 King James Version (KJV)

And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

Revelation 20:15 King James Version (KJV)

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Revelation 21:8 King James Version (KJV)

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Problem with pop "Hell" according to Revelation is chapter 20 verse 9 says "devoured" which means that they are completely consumed and no longer exists since the fire destroys them all. Not a single jot or tittle about them burning for eternity. Ours bodies cannot last for an eternity since we do not have eternal spirits.
Furthermore, the wicked surround the holy city of New Jerusalem and are destroyed by fire which is called "the second death". So a second death means that the wicked were sleeping in their graves, then, were resurrected and attempted to attack the city. As a result, they got devoured by fire causing them to die a second time- hence second death.
Therefore, if we had eternal spirits and HELL is full with sinners burning right now, why would the Scriptures say they die a second death?
God is a god of truth and order. He does not lie and cannot contradict Himself.
I have learned the hard way that being a Christian is not living life based on what you feel or think is right or correct in your wisdom but our decisions must be based wholly and solely on God's word.
